Do
I need a prescription?
In the state of Michigan, you are
required to see a physician and receive a prescription
before beginning rehabilitation. Additionally,
you may need a referral from your primary care
physician, if you are in a managed care program.
How
long do I need to come to therapy?
The length of time a person attends
therapy varies. Your physician will write a prescription
indicating frequency per week and number of weeks
for treatment. Depending on your condition, progress
and goals your rehabilitation may be extended
beyond the original prescription. Your doctor
will be kept informed of your progress and will
receive written reports.
Will
I benefit from therapy?
Most people get relief from symptoms
with therapy. Some conditions do not go away completely,
however, therapy can teach you how to manage severity
of symptoms.
What
is involved in a PT/OT session?
There are many different types
of treatments. Depending on your diagnosis, your
treatments may include:
- Strengthening,
flexibility, balance and stabilization exercises
- Selected
modalities, i.e., ultrasound; electrical stimulation;
iontophoresis; hot/cold; paraffin wax
- Joint/soft
tissue mobilizations
All patients will receive a home exercise program
during treatments so they can participate in
their rehabilitation as well as continue rehabilitation
once discharged.
How long are the therapy sessions?
Depending on your diagnosis, therapy
sessions can run anywhere from 45 minutes to 90
minutes per session.
Will
my insurance cover PT/OT?
Most insurance plans cover PT/OT,
however, you need to check with your insurance
company to determine your benefits. We will work
with you to obtain the best possible coverage.
